Activity: Mediterranean Tastes

This Month’s TBH Activity:

Mediterranean Tastes

Learning about brain healthy foods can be fun and informative for everyone. For this month’s TBH activity, try this:
  • Set up a food tasting station for you and your family that introduces popular tastes from the Mediterranean diet, a heavily plant and fruit-based diet that includes nuts, legumes, fish and whole grains.

Suggested foods for your tasting can include:

  • Various Mediterranean dips, such as hummus, tapenade, babaganoush (eggplant dip), caponata
  • Items for dipping such as cut veggies or whole wheat pita, cut into small triangles
  • Olives
  • Nuts or seeds (beware of allergies).  Almonds, walnuts, cashews, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds

Explain the value of Mediterranean style diet to brain health and overall vitality.

The Mediterranean diet is based on traditional foods from Greece and Italy. Numerous studies have shown that sticking to this patterned diet has been linked to better brain health, long-term vitality, a reduction in cardiovascular disease, and possible weight loss.

Offer family members the chance to try the dips and other healthy snacks and discuss what they think.

Bonus! Share with us photos of your tasting event by emailing to be featured in an upcoming TBH newsletter and in our social media feed.
