Welcome to Day 24 of our 30 Days To Faster Thinking, a free guide to help you unlock your potential to more nimble thinking and to strengthen your focus and attention for a better memory — in just a few minutes each day.
Chunking is an effective memory strategy for learning long sets of information. Research shows that it is easier to retain several shorter lists than one long one; When we “chunk,” or break a longer list into several shorter ones, those long list of numbers or words become easier to learn and to recall later.
Try This Now:
Put the Chunk Strategy to work for you! Memorize three important numbers that you don’t really know yet, such as your bank account, credit card or someone’s phone number. Notice that they may be “chunked” already and use those groupings, or create your own.
Like this strategy? Hone your practice by chunking everyday lists, such as your grocery list, “to do” lists or projects lists at home or work.
